College & Amateur Basketball Career: |
As a senior in 2002-03, played in 21 games. Shot
152-315 from the field (.483), 69-186 from three-point
range (.371) and 77-103 from the free throw line (.748). Averaged
2.6 rebounds and 21.4 points per game. Had 40 steals, 2 blocked
shots, 40 assists and 49 turnovers. Third-team NAIA All-American.
Thomas came to Cumberland
after playing two years at Indian River College in Florida.
Thomas injured his left shoulder in the first game of the season
causing him to miss 3 games. When he came back he would score 57
points in two games in the Cumberland College Invitational
Tournament and be named the MVP. Then on February 1, 2003,
Thomas broke his hand causing him to miss 9 more games. Despite
the injuries, Demorrius received 1st team honors in the tough
Mid-South Conference.
Coach Butcher commented, "If
Demorrius would have been healthy all year long, he would have
been either a 1st or 2nd Team All-American. 'Rabbit' is a very
tough player to guard because of his speed and it caused a lot
of problems for our opponents. Other players on the team and
newcomers can see the time and commitment that Demorrius has put
into this program. He is very well deserving of this high
honor." |
